25 years ago our lifeboat crew joined volunteers from our neighbouring RNLI stations and other emergency services to rescue those affected by the floods in East Sussex. On 11 October 2000, following heavy rainfall, the River Ouse burst its banks and the River Uck flooded. This prompted a coordinated rescue effort in Lewes, Uckfield and the surrounding areas. This week we are celebrating National Volunteering Week in Ireland. We have 46 lifeboat stations and a total of 59 lifeboats covering the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland and thousands of amazing volunteers, who assisted 1,356 people in 2018.
